While both myotherapy and remedial massage involve hands-on treatment, myotherapy is more clinical and diagnostic than remedial massage. Myotherapists have advanced training with either an Advanced Diploma in Myotherapy or a Bachelors of Health Science (Clinical Myotherapy) and use assessment techniques to identify the root causes of pain. They employ a broader range of treatment methods including dry needling, muscle energy technique, and corrective exercises. Remedial massage focuses primarily on muscular pain and tension, while myotherapy addresses complex musculoskeletal conditions and their underlying causes.
